More fun folds

Well, I’m really late getting the cards and recipes posted for the cards from my Facebook Live on February 24th. I was lucky enough to have some social – out of the house! – events last weekend and then this week ended up being a work week from hell. I haven’t been this glad it’s Friday in a loooong time. So, I have a glass of wine in hand, a good movie on the tube, and my laptop handy to get these things posted!

I wanted to show some more fun folds last week and show an interlocking gate fold technique using the Hey Chick/Birthday Chick and Sweet Ice Cream bundles that are available now. One of my cards also highlights some of the items that were available for SALE-a-bration. One more reason I’m sorry this is late since that promotion ended on 2/28 since you can no longer order them. My apologies!

The first card pictured uses a few elements from the Hey Chick/Birthday Chick bundles that are available now (click here) until May 3rd. I’m so glad they brought back the Hey Chick set – and even more glad that I saved it from the first time it was available a couple of years ago. The images are SO cute!

The interlocking gate fold technique uses the Layering Squares dies to create a frame (the “buckle”) and the square with the chicken image that locks inside. The thicker the frame, the more sturdy the buckle is. See the list of materials used below. (Sorry – the paper is no longer available).

The second card uses the Sweet Ice Cream bundle (click here) which I also used in the card I posted last week. Check out all the great images, paper and accessories in this bundle. I didn’t make this buckle as sturdy, so I’m going to have to add another layer in the buckle. I love the sprinkles on the ice cream – those come as part of the suite.

This final card is a different kind of fold called a pocket card. The stamp set and punch are part of the Sweet Strawberry Suite (click here) which is in the spring mini catalog, unfortunately, the paper for the card was part of SALE-a-bration and is no longer available. There are lots of examples of pocket cards on Pinterest – check them out! I’m also going to try and add a tutorials section to my website that will have written dimensions/instructions on how to make these fun techniques.

Fun Fold Ice Cream

I had planned on having a number of fun fold cards to show this week on the blog and on last Wednesday’s Facebook Live, but I was only to pull 1 card together. (sigh) Adulting sometimes gets in the way, and I have to put my toys aside…

However, I was able to create the card below – it’s a fun take on the gate fold card and it has a belly band! I wanted to use the Ice Cream Corner Suite from the Mini Catalog because there are just so many great elements. Because this is a fun fold, along with the recipe below, I wanted to provide the measurements and a short tutorial. Here’s what you will need:

  • White Card Stock: 4″ x 10″, scored at 5″, 2 pieces 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ scored diagonally, 7/8″ x 1 1/2″ for sentiment plus additional scraps for ice cream cone
  • Designer Series Paper (DSP): 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ and 1 piece contrasting DSP 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ (Ice Cream Corner DSP)
  • Colored Card Stock: 4 1/4″ x 5 1/4″, 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ (I used Rich Razzleberry)
  • Vellum: 1″ x 9″

Card Directions:

  1. Fold the 4″ x 10″ white card stock.
  2. Fold the 3 1/2″ card stock along the diagonal and adhere each one along the fold on each side to the back of the 4″ x 5″ card stock so it looks like wings (see photo below).
  1. Adhere to the 4 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ colored card stock..
  2. Adhere the 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ DSP to the front of the white card stock
  3. Stamp Sentiment on 7/8″ x 1 1/2″ white paper and adhere to the top of the DSP
  4. Cut the contrasting 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ DSP diagonally and adhere to the front of the “wings”
  5. Stamp the ice cream 3 times in 3 separate colors (I used Rich Razzleberry, Pool Party and Soft Seafoam) and punch out with Ice Cream Cone Builder Punch
  6. Stamp the cone in Cinnamon Cider and the inside image in Early Espresso and punch out
  7. Using the Tasteful Labels dies, cut out the 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ card stock using the largest die
  8. Adhere the ice cream cone to the from of the die cut piece
  9. Wrap the vellum around the card and adhere the 2 ends.
  10. Adhere the die cut piece to the vellum.

It looks like a difficult fold, but since it’s 3 pieces to make the fold, it’s much easier. I hope you enjoy trying this fold for yourself. I’ll be doing another fun fold on my Facebook Live this coming Wednesday, 2/24 between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m.

Hee Haw!

One of my favorite sets in this year’s SALE-a-bration catalog is Darling Donkeys; it can be used to make so many whimsical cards. Any I’m not the only one – take a look at some of the fun creation on Pinterest. I had time to play last week and came up with some cute ideas for my Facebook Live. Click here to watch it if you missed it, or if you want to watch again to see how I made the first card below. As an added benefit, it’s not sideways like the Live I did the week before…so embarrassing…

I had a lot of fun designing these cards, the donkeys have such cute faces. Our Stampin’ Blends are just perfect for coloring; I used a different color set for each card. The recipe for the first card is shown below all the cards. Let me know if you want the recipes for the other cards.

Enjoy the Moment

It’s finally 2021 and I’m hoping that it’s going to be a big improvement for us all socially – I’ve really missed face-to-face contact with my family, friends, co-workers and of course all my stamping friends.

One of my new year’s resolutions is to use social media more to get my creations out there as well as connect with people. I’ve been a little sporadic in the past posting on this blog, my Stampin’ Up! website and my Facebook and Instagram pages…hopefully I can stick to it this year. I posted my first Facebook Live of the new year last week to show off some cards using the Enjoy the Moment stamp set. I thought it was going so well, until I looked at my computer to make sure the Live was displaying and saw that I was sideways…ugh! Oh well, I moved things around so people could see, but think I need some more practice. If you want a good laugh, click here to check it out.

The pandemic has not put a damper on my stamping purchases and I’ve kept up with outfitting my craft room with all the cool new stuff that Stampin’ Up! has to offer – I have a large pile of new stamps/products in my room. I’m going to present a new one of these stamp sets each week in my Facebook live as well as try and post the cards here. If you braved watching the link above, you’ll recognize the cards below. I made these using the stamp set Enjoy the Moment. I didn’t like it much when I first saw it, but as with many stamp sets, I saw all the beautiful creations by other stampers and had to buy it. Its a great set for masculine cards. The recipe for the first card is noted below – if you want to know anything about the others, shoot me an email.

Thanks for stopping by! My next round of cards are using a really fun set from the SALE-a-bration catalog. Look for a link to my next Facebook Live and photos of the cards this weekend.

Sneak Peek!

The strange year continues….last weekend, Stampin’ Up held a virtual convention. Kathleen, my upline, came over and we sat – socially distanced – in front of a big monitor and watched all the presentations and classes. It was a little weird. But, as always, Stampin’ Up! did a phenomenal job and they came through with a great experience; tons of new products, new ideas and, of course, fun!

We got a sneak peek at the upcoming January – June catalog and all the incredible offerings for Sale-a-Bration! …and we all got to order some of the new product to play with! Now, I can’t show you anything from the new catalogs, but I can show you a couple of the cards that we were able to make from the kits we preordered. I can’t give you the recipes yet, just the sneak peek!

Take a look at the darling ladybug embellishment on the card above and I can tell you that this all comes in a suite that includes a dragonfly punch! Once I get my preorder, I’ll be playing and posting more pictures so you can see what else is coming.

My next post will be a little something different. I haven’t posted in a while because I had a summer/fall project that I finished just a little while ago. I have some pictures of that project I want to share with you.

As always, happy stamping and stay safe!

Christmas in October

Well, I posted my first Facebook live today – I was so nervous! It started a little rocky because my screen was sideways when I first launched, so I restarted and the rest went well. Click here to watch if you want. I’m glad I’ve got that under my belt and I will definitely be posting more. Thanks to all of you who participated and showed me hearts and support – I appreciate you!

I promised to post a photo of the card on the site and list all the dimensions and elements, so here goes.

  • Card Base: Real Red 5 1/2″ x 8 1/5″ folded in half and 3″ x 3″ (for Poinsettia)
  • Heartwarming Hugs DSP layer: 4″ x 5 1/4″ and 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ (for Poinsettia)
  • Gold Foil: 2″ x 4″ and scraps for the sprig and Poinsettia center
  • Whisper White: 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ for greeting
  • Mossy Meadow: Scraps for leaves

You can watch the video to see how to assemble the card. Below are all the elements – please let me know if you need to order anything, or you can click on the holiday catalog to the right and look at all the great holiday products – SO many cute things to pick from!

Hope you are staying healthy and safe. As always, happy stamping!!

Pretty In Pink

I’m not a girly-girl. Never have been. I lived in jeans and t-shirts and played outside all day long when I was a kid (until the street lights came on, of course). I hated make-up, fingernail polish, dolls and anything pink…

Well, a few of those things have changed as I’ve gotten older, however, pink is still not a go-to color for me for much of anything. I surprised myself, however, when I sat down last weekend to design the cards for my upcoming card classes. I love the new Forever Greenery Suite; there are so many beautiful, coordinating elements. But when I pulled out all the materials to create a cool, green, summery card, things took a different turn. And, in fact, the card came together really, really fast. The sentiment “Love & Laughter Forever After” started it off and I just kept going. And guess what….it’s pink!

Along with pink, I used gold and vanilla with vellum paper as a pretty background. You know when you create a card and you’re pretty happy with the design, but other times, you create something you really love? Well that’s the case with this card. I think it turned out to be stunning. Now if I only had a wedding coming up! The recipe for the card is below – so please contact me (or click the link to my store on the right) to order the supplies for this card so you can work on your own stunning creations!

And if you need the new 2020-2021 Stampin’ Up! catalog, let me know and I can pop one in the mail to you.

Stay healthy and safe and, as always, Happy Stamping!!
