Floral Boutique #3

Card #3 in the Floral Boutique suite.  This was a design I had in my head that transferred to paper almost exactly. I love, love, LOVE when that happens….it’s kind of a validation that my creative thoughts aren’t so crazy after all!

This card includes the Floral Boutique Suite, but also the new set Vertical Greetings. I really like how they compliment each other.  And this time I decided to add a little more color – GOLD! I sponged the edge of the Night of Navy die cut with gold and and you can’t see it very well, but the heart topiary has pearl jewels colored gold just to add a sweet touch.

My Favorite Things…

So I mentioned in my June newsletter that one of my favorites in the 2016/2017 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog is the Floral Boutique Suite. I’m not sure really what I’m drawn to – maybe it’s the simplicity of the color scheme or the beautiful thinlits dies or the versatility – I just fell in love with it from the first time I looked through the catalog.

I got my box before the July 4th holiday, but have been too busy to stamp.  I finally opened all the pieces to the suite tonight and played for about 2 hours. Unfortunately, the creative juices just weren’t flowing to start and it took me about 4 tries to get the first card done. I still wasn’t happy with it, it just doesn’t look like how I pictured it my head. Blech, I hate when that happens…and will not be posting a photo.

Anyway, I was much happier with my second card. For those of you interested in attending the Floral Boutique class on August 13th, this one of the cards we will be making.  See more details on the Calendar accessible from the right navigation of the blog.

If you want to see all the beautiful parts of the Floral Boutique Suite, check out page 76-77 of the new catalog.

I hope to be able to play some more this weekend, so keep an eye out for new postings!

With Sympathy

“In the end, only three things matter; how much you loved, how gently you lived and how gracefully you let go of the things not meant for you”

Buddha

I have unfortunately had the need for a number of sympathy cards recently.  As family and friends have aged, there have been the inevitable funerals to attend. We will miss them, however, those whose funerals I attended all lived long and happy lives….

I prefer to keep my handmade sympathy cards clean and simple – I want the message I include on the inside to be the focus and convey my thoughts and prayers. The card below was made with 1 single sheet of paper and 4 colors of ink – Soft Sky, Pool Party, Marina Mist, and the Black Memento Pad. The flower is from the Garden in Bloom set, the background image is from Perpetual Birthday Calendar and the sentiment is from the Thoughts & Prayers set.

I think it turned out so clean looking – although the photo appears a little blurry, sorry about that.

Balloon Birthday

This is the next card I made with my new stamps from the 2016 Stampin’ Up catalog. We have a lot of spring birthdays in my family so I always need to have a lot of birthday cards on hand. I used the new In Colors – LOVE the Peekaboo Peach – and the Confetti Celebration stamp set with the Balloon Punch.

For the balloons, I didn’t just punch them out of the new In Color paper, I decided to give them some depth, so I colored some Whisper White paper with the In Color markers and then punched out the balloons. And I created the balloon strings with the Project Life journaling pens. The additional depth for the card comes from the Large Polka Dot Embossing folder.

Its almost unbearably hot today, so while sitting on my screen porch and writing this presents me with a lovely view, I don’t think I can take the heat.  My stamping room is in the basement, so I’ll be retiring down there shortly where it’s nice and cool…and I will be forced to play. Too bad for me…

Happy Stamping!

…..I’m back!

I won’t go into all the details for why I haven’t posted for such a long time; let’s just say free time is at a premium and usually it’s spent doing laundry, cleaning or running errands.  Sadly, that has left next to no time available to do anything creative.

However, I have been working really hard recently to carve out some time for myself – especially since I got my toys from the new catalog! The card below is the first I made once I opened my box of stuff.  The gals in my monthly card class loved it! I think the Love You Lots Hostess set is so sweet – the hedgehogs, despite their prickly “fur”, are so cute! I also used the Thoughtful Banners and the accompanying punch for the greeting.  What a versatile set!

I have more cards to post and will do so later this weekend.  I am so glad to be back and posting to the site.  Hopefully my postings will be more consistent!

Promising Flowers

I haven’t posted for a while – we’ve been incredibly busy lately! This is one of the cards I created for my 3 or $5 card class last month. I love the new Brick Wall Embossing Folder – it gave this card a wonderful background texture. Not too overpowering, just enough to give a subtle look.  The gals who came to the class used different sayings than I have on the card in the photo. One made a birthday card and one decided to use a sympathy message.  The flowers on the card lent themselves very well to creating a variety of different messages.

May the very best card

I’m hoping to be able to start posting more soon – the holidays are so busy, but I need some me-time too so I don’t go crazy.  Hopefully that will translate into more postings!

Thanks for visiting – happy stamping!

Chestnuts Roasting….

I know it’s truly the Holidays when I hear The Christmas Song sung by Nat King Cole.  It brings back such warm memories of my childhood – wood burning fires, my dad singing along with the vinyl records on the console (that took up half the living room), cut-out sugar cookies, and a flocked Christmas tree. <<sigh>> Those were such wonderful times.

Because of that, the sentiment on this stamp really spoke to me.  In fact, I’ve been singing the song for the last week… I love the chalkboard-look so I thought that would work great on the pillow box die.  Again, I have to add ribbon to everything I do, so this include the red striped ribbon and a new favorite – the red pom-pom trim as the holly berries (the leaves are fussy-cut out of Always Artichoke)

Of course this will be filled with chocolate – dark chocolate being my favorite – and I will be giving these out to my co-workers as holidays gifts.  And I’m sure I’ll be singing The Christmas Song when I’m passing them out…

Fancy….

Paper hoarder….I am….I’m not ashamed of it at all, I have no control over it and never will…no apologies.

It takes a very special project to prompt me to get out my favorite Designer Series Papers and actually use them.  This one did it.

I found the inspiration here on Pinterest and decided to try my hand at creating a version with some of my favorite retired Stampin’ Up! DSP.  I think it turned out really lovely! This one is going to remain with me for my holiday decorating, but  I’m going to make a few more for my upcoming craft sales.  I hope others find them as lovely as I do.  I’m going to try some different color combinations and maybe add some ribbon.  I think I’ve mentioned it before, but I have trouble not including ribbon on every craft project I create…is that a bad thing?!?

Enjoy the beauty 🙂 and feel free to contact me if you want any hints if you want to make your very own.  The Pinterest link had good, easy directions.

Thanks and Happy Stamping!

Santa’s On His Way

I need to get organized….I’m really getting worried.  Fall craft sales start at the end of October and I am woefully behind schedule in building up my inventory. It’s just been really hard to lock myself up in my craft room when the weather has been so nice.

Good problem to have – I like to squeeze all the hours out of the summer-like weather that I can! I know the snow is coming…

I played with a new set that I haven’t used yet – Cup of Cheer – last night and came up with this simple holiday card.  It only took a couple of minutes to pull together, but oh so cute!  The word Santa looks so “Western” to me that I might have to pair it with a Christmas Cowboy next time!

Death By Chocolate

September 22, 2015

I promised in an earlier post that the next time I use the Fry Box Bigz Die, I was going to stamp with the Death By Chocolate image from the Sweet Hauntings set. Well, I got the chance to create that tonight. I had a really long day at my “other” job, so taking some time in my craft room to use the creative side of my brain was very welcome.  It felt so good to play, I just wish I wasn’t so tired so I could keep stamping.

Halloween Fries

I love Halloween – I actually have more Halloween decorations than Christmas decorations…….really. So when the Holiday catalog comes out, I seriously have to hold myself back from ordering all the cool Halloween stuff.  It was fun to get some of the stuff out that I did order and put this cute container together. I used a portion of a Spider Web Doily as well as a frayed scrap piece of Burlap Ribbon for some fun texture.

Halloween Fries close up

The cello bag is filled with kisses, but my husband informed me that there is no way that’s enough chocolate to achieve “Death By Chocolate.”   I guess he’s right – you can never have too much chocolate.

Thanks for stopping – Happy Stamping!
